Technology for Instruction
With our small class sizes, we are able to provide an individualized approach for each student. Our teachers use their expertise to craft a personalized learning experience for each child designed to best meet his/her needs. Summit teachers use technology selectively, with specific applications chosen to achieve specific educational goals.
We do not rely on adaptive instructional tools that generate content for students; instead, we prioritize purposeful and intentional teaching strategies that may utilize technology when it is the best available tool. In this approach, the teacher takes the lead in designing and delivering instruction, while also being responsive and flexible to meet the diverse needs of students. This method relies on the teacher's expertise, intuition, and ability to adjust teaching strategies based on student progress and feedback, rather than on pre-set technological algorithms or tools.
Pre-set technological algorithms or tools are used very sparingly. At this time, the only programs we use that would fit into that category are Beast Academy, which provides students with engaging puzzles and math applications that deepen understanding while making math fun, and Typing.com, which uses games and rote practice to help students become adept at typing.
Technology for Responsibility & Integrity
Technology use is a prevalent part of life in our American culture, and it brings with it many blessings and applications that can be used to further the gospel. At the same time, it provides Christians with a deeper opportunity for a lack of integrity or hypocrisy due to the anonymity it provides. It is important to us that we teach our students that a Christian acts with integrity in all areas of life, taking responsibility for failures, and working to truly be the same person behind the screen that we are in person. We desire to teach our students how to honor God at all times, even in areas that may be hidden from others.
-
Appropriate Usage
-
Summit Christian School’s students will be able to verbalize and demonstrate that technology at school is not used for entertainment, but rather for communication, collaboration, and creativity. It should be used for building each other up and furthering the Gospel.
-
-
Digital rights and ownership
-
Summit Christian School’s students will be able to respect copyrights and ownership of digital resources and share digital files responsibly.
-
-
Personal safety
-
Summit Christian School’s students will engage in conversations with their teachers about ways to be safe when using digital tools online whether at home or school. Some of the topics of these conversations are password safety, limiting the sharing of personal information, and safe internet searches.
-
-
Biblical worldview toward technology
-
Summit Christian School’s students will consider biblical principles in technology usage. Our time is a valuable resource from the Lord. The way we communicate and interact with others matters. It should reflect God’s love and the truth of the Gospel.
-
Technology for Assessment
At Summit Christian School, we integrate technology purposefully into our educational practices, including assessments, to enhance learning experiences and promote academic growth. Through the thoughtful use of digital tools and platforms, we aim to facilitate fair, accurate, and efficient assessments that align with our commitment to nurturing each student's intellectual and spiritual development. We use technology to track individual student’s progress and make sure that all students are meeting their personal learning goals.
New Shark Collab Lab
New for the 2024-2025 school year, Summit will offer our Shark Collab Lab which will be run by our Technology Coach. The Technology Coach will partner with classroom teachers to provide weekly opportunities for students to use technology in ways that will reach our ambitious and purposeful goals for our technology program.
Devices
We are blessed with iPads for our elementary students, an iMac Lab, and 1:1 Chromebooks for our middle school students. Our students benefit from learning to use a variety of platforms across a variety of device types to equip them to use technology with excellence.
